The Fort of Cacela Velha, in the village of Cacela, is located on top of a hill overlooking the eastern area of the Ria Formosa.
Originally built as a Moorish castle, prior to the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula, it was rebuilt in the 16th century by order of D. João II or D. Sebastião, with the latter having personally inspected the works in 1573.
A historic site that provides incredible views over the Ria Formosa.
